HAZELNUTS
- ORIGIN
- These nuts (also known as ‘filberts’ and ‘cob nuts’) are native to temperate parts of Europe and it isn’t unknown for them to grow wild in the hedgerows of Britain. Some are native to the eastern Mediterranean. Turkey, Spain and Italy are favoured areas for growing these nuts.
- NUTRITION
- Hazelnuts contain fibre, calcium, magnesium and Vitamin E. They are also a good source of protein.
- NB –– If you roast them in the oven for a few minutes you will find that, when they’ve cooled slightly and you rub the skins off with your fingers they have an affinity with chocolate.
