- ORIGIN
- Pecans grow in the South from near the Atlantic Coast west to Iowa and Texas. Also, from Illinois south to the Gulf of Mexico.
- NUTRITION
- The Pecan is a rich food and has been found valuable for cases of low blood pressure, general weakness and for persons needing nourishment for the teeth.
- The pecan is also high in oil with 85 per cent being unsaturated, mainly monounsaturated.
- They are a concentrated energy source.
- The pecan is ranked highest among all nuts and are among the top category of foods to contain the highest antioxidant capacity, meaning pecans may decrease the risk of cancer, coronary heart disease, and neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
