Why are seeds good for us?
Like nuts, seeds are rich in nutrients which make them commonly known as one of the super foods, especially in terms of fighting cancer. Seeds are rich in essential fatty acids and phonolic acids (which studies have shown to be effective in protecting against prostate cancer). Seeds are also low in saturated fats. Seeds contain protein (10–25%) and are good sources of some of the B vitamins, vitamin E, calcium, phosphorous, potassium and iron as well as being fibrous.
It isn’t difficult to get seeds into the diet as they are ideal for snacking (being easy to carry with you and to nibble) and can be added to salads, muesli, soups and stews as well as bread, smoothies and rice dishes.
Cereal bars containing seeds are now commonly available.
