
SUNFLOWER SEEDS
- ORIGIN
- Sunflower seeds are the fruit of the sunflower. They have been cultivated for several thousand years, originally in Mexico and Peru and used by Native Americans for more than 5000 years.
- Some of the primary producers of sunflower seeds now are Russia, Ukraine, Argentina, China, India, USA, Turkey, Bulgaria, South Africa and Serbia.
- NUTRITION
- As well as containing linoleic acid (an essential fatty acid), sunflower seeds are an excellent source of dietary fibre, protein, Vitamin E (the anti–ageing vitamin), and minerals such as magnesium and selenium. In addition to this they are high in cholesterol lowering phytosterols.
